3 Ways to Create a Romantic Getaway at Home

Romantic Getaway

Are you and your hunny in desperate need of some alone time, but you don’t have the money or the time for a romantic getaway for two? While a weekend at a bed & breakfast may seem like the ideal setting for romance, it is not the only place you can reignite that flame. Luckily with a little ingenuity and creativity, you can still carve out time for your relationship even when you are stuck at home.

Here are 3 ways to create a romantic getaway at home:

1. Make Your Bedroom a Romantic Haven

Especially if you have kids, it can be hard to set up a room that is designated just for “adult time”. The mess and chaos of daily living is not real conducive to snuggling up together. Either is little kids jumping up and down on the bed demanding your attention. While it might not be practical to make your bedroom a complete kids-free zone, there are ways to still make it a little romantic haven for you and your partner.

First of all, all the clutter must go. You are never going to feel “in the mood” when your bedroom is filled to the brim with piles of laundry, the kids’ toys, paperwork, you name it, that inevitably get thrown in there when you are trying to clean up the rest of the house. When everything is put away neatly, you will find it easier to relax and to direct your attention to quality time with your hunny.

Do one big cleanup/organization to get rid of the big messes and then just do little cleanups every day to keep things from building up again. Once the kids are safely ensconced in bed, just clean up whatever got strewn about during the day. It should only take about 10 to 15 minutes and then you will have a stress-free space for you and your partner to spend some quality time before bed. Also make sure you dust and vacuum your bedroom regularly to make the room as inviting as possible.

The next step is to create a romantic ambiance in the room. Candles can definitely add some mood lighting and always have your favorite romantic music on standby too. How you decorate the room can also help create a romantic getaway vibe at home. Choose luxurious bedding and make sure you have carpeting or rugs that are soft and cushiony. Cowhide rugs are perfect for the bedroom. Cowhide hairs are soft and supple and your feet will feel like they are in heaven when they step onto a cowhide rug. The richness of the colors and patterns also adds a sophistication to the room, so be sure to check out cowhide rugs for sale. In the winter time also make sure you have plenty of soft blankets layered on the bed. You will appreciate them when you are trying to get cozy on a cold winter’s night.

Create Little Oases All Over

For a true romantic getaway at home feel, you are not going to want to be stuck hiding from the kids in your bedroom. Try to create little oases all over the house so you are always ready for impromptu couple time. Like with the bedroom, cleanliness and organization are a must. If you have an unexpected few hours alone together, you are going to want to make the most of it so don’t let a messy home snuff out the good vibes.

Think about how great it will be to snuggle up on the couch in a clean and uncluttered family room to watch a movie together or catch up on your favorite television series. Make sure blankets and candles are stored nearby to help set the stage. If you have a fireplace, cowhide rugs are great for snuggling together before the fire. If you and your partner love to cook together or even just share romantic meals just for two, then also make sure that the kitchen and dining room are primed and ready for a moment’s notice because you never know when you’ll have that chance for some couple time.

Always have the kitchen stocked with wine, cheese, fruit and crackers and whatever snacks you both like to nibble on and again make sure candles and music are nearby for when the mood strikes.

Plan a Special Weekend at Home

While stealing a few minutes here and there with each other is certainly better than not cultivating your relationship at all, it can be tough to always have to do it in piecemeal. Wouldn’t a whole weekend together be heavenly? Plan ahead for just one weekend every couple of months for a family member to take the kids for the whole weekend. Decadent sounding isn’t it? You will have the whole house to yourselves, no interruptions, and you don’t have to spend an exorbitant amount of money at a hotel or bed and breakfast to do so.

Here some fun romantic activities you can do together right at home:

  • Have a romantic picnic in the backyard. Just lay out a blanket and bring out your favorite foods and just enjoy each other’s company and the fresh air.
  • Have “His” and “Her” Days where you do something fun that your partner enjoys. That way you are sharing with each other what you are passionate about. For instance, maybe you spend the morning golfing with him and then he takes you to a poetry reading.
  • Pamper each other with DIY Spa Day. Who says you have to spend lots of money on spa experience. Take long soaks in the tub and give each other massages with scented oils.
  • Make it simple but fun. Just spend the weekend in bed. Sleep in, have long chats, eat in bed. Just being together is all you really need.
  • Go for a long walk, exploring areas of your hometown you don’t really get a chance to see normally.

Of course there are certain things you should not do during this romantic getaway at home. Do not do any of your daily chores like cleaning and laundry and don’t cook unless it is something you like doing together. Avoid doing things that will bring reality and the stress it brings into your little bubble built for two. The most important thing is that you are spending time together. The quality alone time is essential to any relationship so make it a priority. Put it on the calendar, do whatever you have to do to make sure that daily life doesn’t keep getting in the way.
