Your Spring Home Makeover Checklist

spring home makeover

The spring is the perfect time to give your home a fresh time. Warmer weather and longer days are coming and you are going to want to invite family and friends over to enjoy it all. If your house is looking a little worse for wear after a long winter, don’t worry. There are a lot of relatively inexpensive ways you can upgrade your home.

Here is your spring home makeover checklist:

Buy a New Rug

Area rugs are a lot easier to replace than wall to wall carpet. So if you have mostly hardwood floors throughout your home, think about replacing one or two of your area rugs. A new rug can add some much needed bright color and texture to your living room or dining room, even the kitchen. Pick one that complements the colors on your walls.

A cowhide rug will give a sophisticated look to any of your rooms. The soft, supple skin and rich colors and patterns make it feel like a million bucks, but luckily won’t cost you that much.

Reframe Your Photos and Art

If you love to decorate with framed art and photographs and have your walls filled with precious mementos, then there is a quick way to refresh your displays. Instead of buying a whole bunch of new art and photos, simply just reframe the ones you already have. Make a bolder statement with all gold or silver frames or buy frames in bright colors. Your walls will feel immediately fresher.

Create a Statement Ceiling

With a little more elbow grease and creative vision, you can add a statement ceiling to any room to add some pizazz. A statement ceiling basically is when you use your ceiling as an art canvas to make a personal statement. Turn your kids’ bedroom ceiling into the night sky or create a romantic boudoir feeling on the ceiling of the master bedroom. Have fun with it.

Buy or Repurpose Organizational Pieces

Clutter doesn’t look good on your home and you know it. Make it a priority this spring to get a handle on it by buying some fresh organizational pieces or repurpose ones you have at home. That antique dresser that is still in good shape, but is just taking up extra space in your bedroom, can be moved to the bathroom for linens and things. Remember that your organization pieces should be stylish and fit the overall look of the room as well as functional.

Clean Up that Clutter!

Now of course, you don’t want to buy a bunch of pretty organizers and never actually use them. Besides making over your home, use this time to streamline your life so it is easier to stay on top of everything, including those piles of laundry and paperwork. Commit to at least an hour a day to keeping the house tidy and you start to feel some of your stress slip away.

Swap Out Your Headboard

If you’d like to spice things up in the bedroom, you don’t need to do a complete bedroom revamp. Swapping out your plain wood headboard for a fabric headboard can bring much needed color and texture to the space. You and your honey will love spending more time in the bedroom this spring with this easy makeover.

Add Color to Your Kitchen Cabinets

Is your kitchen looking a little drab, but you can’t afford a complete kitchen makeover? It is amazing how much a new color on your cabinets can really transform the space, taking it from drab to fab. Choose a bright primary color to really give it some pop. Paint the walls another bright complementary for a fuller effect. A couple coats of paint and it will be like a whole new kitchen!

Treat Yourself Some New Bedding

The bed is the centerpiece of your bedroom. It is where you begin and end your day so it is important that you enjoy being in it. New bedframes and mattresses can be a big investment so a less expensive way to upgrade your bed is with new bedding. Go ahead and splurge and get the finest materials and exquisite patterns. You will love getting into bed each night when you have a cocoon of softness waiting for you.

Reupholster Your Furniture

When it comes to your living room or family room and all the traffic that comes in and out, it might seem impossible to give it a good facelift without replacing all the worn furniture. Luckily most couches and chairs can easily be reupholstered. If you have been wanting to try out a new, bolder style, but are a little worried that you might not like it, this is the perfect way to take it out on a test run. Reupholstering again if you don’t like it is a lot cheaper than buying all new furniture.

Get Your Books in Order

Being a book lover is great until you have to find space in your home for whole book collection. If you are running out of space in your bookshelves and all your books are just crammed into any available space, then it is time to get your books in order. Carve out a few hours on a Saturday or a Sunday and make a pile of old books that you can donate (I know it’s hard, but you can do it) and then organize the rest as neatly as you can in your bookshelves. If you really can’t part with any of your books, then at least get a few extra book shelves to contain the overflow.

Replace Your Curtains

Finally, the last thing you should do as part of your spring home makeover is to replace the curtains in as many room as you can afford to and at least take down and clean the curtains in the other rooms. Curtains with new colors and patterns can change up the vibe in the room without a big expense.
